About us

With its 80 regular beds, six operating theaters, a five-bed intensive care ward dedicated to ear, nose and throat, and a polyclinic with nine treatment units, the Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic, Head and Throat Surgery of the Erlangen University Hospital is one of the biggest ENT clinics in Germany.

The ENT Clinic offers its patients the whole range of diagnoses, conservative treatment and operations of the ear, nose and throat and relating to head and throat surgery. The Erlangen ENT Clinic is particularly specialized in the diagnosis and therapy of diseases of the major salivary glands. To this end, special attention is given not only to the protection of facial nerves, but also to the retention of organs.

Retention of organs is also at the core of the treatment of malignant diseases of the head and throat region. The use of laser technology helps in this respect.
The application of different laser systems is an essential component of the treatment methods. Moreover, radio chemotherapy or cutting-edge flap reconstruction techniques are used for the treatment of malignant diseases.

State of the art endoscopic operation techniques, if appropriate, jointly with intra-operative navigation, are used for the treatment of nasal and chronic sinus diseases.
Cosmetic nose and face operations are professionally carried out by a team of internationally renowned doctors.

The very latest procedures for operations and reconstructions are used for the treatment of diseases of the middle and inner ear, including implantable hearing aids.

Cochlear implants (CI) have been used since 1992.
Every year, 100 patients are cared for with this modern technology. Holistic after-care is also assured to best effect by CICERO, the Cochlear Implant Center, opened in 2009. An interdisciplinary team is responsible here for the entire treatment of patients, right from the start. Also, patients with tumors of the auditory nerves (acoustic neuromas) are treated surgically and conservatively. As the only Bavarian clinic, the Erlangen ENTClinic has an independent specialist department of phoniatrics and a vocational college of logopedics, as well as a professorship of audiology.
