About us

The Chairman of the Center for Joint Arthroplasty & Joint Surgery at the Vivantes Auguste-Viktoria Hospital is Professor Dr Heino Kienapfel. At the Department for Special Orthopaedic Surgery and Trauma Surgery, Maximum Care Center for Joint Arthroplasty & Joint Surgery and Center for Spinal Surgery, Professor Kienapfel and his colleagues focus on arthroscopy procedures, artificial joint replacement including revision surgery and joint-maintaining procedures. In 2014, thanks to its wide experience and the very high number of cases, the Clinic was the first clinic in the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan area to be awarded the Certificate as a Maximum Care Level Center (EPZ-Max) for artificial hip and knee joints. One particular specialist area of Professor Kienapfel and his Department is also the treatment of patients with infections or malignant tumours in the area of bony and soft tissues.

A particular specialty of Prof. Dr. Kienapfel and his team is the inter-disciplinary treatment of infections in the musculo-skelettal system (in cooperation with the Departments of Infectiology (PD Dr. Arasteh & Dr. Stocker), Microbiology (Laboratory Berlin Charite & Vivantes), Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (Dr. Spierer) und Vascular & Abdominal & Thoracic Surgery (Dr. Cataldegirmen und Dr. Rohde). This inter-disciplinary treatment approach is also successfully used in the treatment of malign & benign tumours in the musculo-skelettal system togetehe with all Departments of the Vivantes Tumorboard South-West (Chairwoman: Prof. de Witt) , including the Departments of Oncology, Radiology, Hämatology, Pathology, Radiation Therapy, Vascular & Abdominal & Thoracic Surgery. A further core area of Prof. Kienapfel is the treatment of spine diseases of any origin (degenerative, traumatic, infectious or due to tumours). The Department has an integrated Center for Spine Surgery which consists of Specialists im Neurosurgery (PD Dr. Cabraja) Neurology (Prof. Mackert), Radiology (PD Dr. Komm), Psychosomatics, Rehabilitation Medicine & Physical Therapy Phy ( Dr. Stock).
