About us

The Department of Neurosurgery has two locations: Ulm and Günzburg.
In Günzburg, the department is located in a building that was completely renovated in 2000 and which has received newly constructed surgical facilities in 2008.
In Ulm, the department has moved to the newly constructed Surgery Center located on the Oberer Eselsberg in 2012, which is equipped with cutting-edge OR technology.

Our treatment spectrum includes all aspects of neurosurgery. For patients with nerve and arm plexus injuries, we are a supraregional competency center that sets the standard of care and attracts international patients. For the treatment of neurooncology patients (tumors and metastases), we have available the BrainSuite® in Günzburg, which is an OR equipped with the highest level of medical technology available in the world.

By means of weekly neurotumor board meetings, the ongoing treatment of patients is ensured with the greatest competency and comprehensive follow-up care. Also, in spine surgery, we use all sensible surgical techniques that range from straight-forward disk surgery to complex fusion operations. Vascular diseases of the brain and spinal cord vessels are treated in collaboration with neuroradiology and also interventionally treated by physicians from the Department of Neurosurgery. This facilitates an especially objective and comprehensive counseling of the patients. The neurofibromatosis consultation hour is also one of the few interdisciplinary institutions of this type in Germany.
As a patient in our institution, you are the center of attention for our physicians and the nursing care team. To maintain this level of care, we intensively dedicate ourselves to experimental and clinical research and clinical studies to develop new therapies.
