About us

Dr. Frank Sacher has been practicing ophthalmology for about 20 years, fifteen of which he has spent in the Basel region. Dr. Sacher studied medicine in Ulm, Germany and spent time studying abroad in both England and Switzerland. After completing his degree, he worked as an ophthalmologist at the Aarau Cantonal Hospital.

His honed his skills across a broad surgical spectrum as managing surgeon at the Vista Clinic in Binningen and at the Liestal Cantonal Hospital. He gained experience in retinal surgery from part-time employment in Fuerth, Germany and Zurich's Triemli Hospital.

After well over 20,000 surgical procedures, Dr. Sacher has the experience that enables him to achieve the optimal outcome for patients even in complicated operations. Dr. Sacher's surgical repertoire includes cataract, glaucoma, retinal and vitreous surgery.

As attending surgeon at the Bahnhof Basel Surgical Center, the Baselland Cantonal Hospital (Liestal location) and the Brugg Medical Health Center, Dr. Sacher's can also provide optimal surgical care of acute eye diseases.

At the Basel Bahnhof Eye Center, the patients and their needs - and therefore individual consultation - are the primary focus. Ultra-modern technical equipment and diagnostic methods partnered with a professional medical staff help support doctors to fulfill this commitment of the Eye Center. The affiliated Bahnhof Basel Surgical Center is located right next to the Bahnhof Basel Eye Center. All doctors perform their surgeries there.

At our second location, the Bahnhof Basel Macular Center, we have been specifically caring for patients with diseases of the macula, the most common is age-related macular degeneration, since 2013.

The quality of our work and services is paramount to us - it is the basis upon which all of our actions are founded and prerequisite to the greatest patient safety. The Bahnhof Basel Eye Center and the Bahnhof Basel Surgical Center have been certified according to the ISO 9001:2008 standard since 2009.

Besides this certification, we systematically register all of our cataract surgeries with Eurequo, a Europe-wide quality assurance project, as proof that we stand up to international comparison. We also conduct continual surveys on patients undergoing cataract surgeries to poll their satisfaction with the operation and the outcome. You can view the patient satisfaction and international comparison data on our website.
