Dr Daniel Brusco is an eminent maxillofacial surgeon. He has headed his own private practice in Zurich, right beside the lake, since 2015. He initially completed studies in human medicine at the University of Zurich. After his doctorate and basic surgical training, he also studied dentistry and completed this course of studies with a second doctorate. In 2008, he sat for his specialist examination as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. In addition to his two doctorates and his successful professional activity in a leading position, he has continued to gain qualifications and has obtained several certificates in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery since 2008. As well, a large number of publications in the specialist literature testify to his extensive expertise. He is a member of various national and international specialist associations. He is a contributor to national and international conferences in this specialist field and a member of the International Teaching Staff of the “International Course of expert surgical orthodontics and orthognathic surgery” of the University of Barcelona. Dr Brusco’s practice specialises in maxillofacial surgery, oral surgery and nasal surgery. Together with the treatment of acute conditions, such as temporomandibluar joint pain, dyspnoea, sleep apnoea or the surgical removal of wisdom teeth, cysts and other bony changes, Dr Brusco and his team mainly focus on the surgical treatment of malposition of the jaw (dysgnathia surgery) and profile optimisation, whether due to a functional or an aesthetic indication. The objective of each treatment is to combine functionality and aesthetics optimally and thus to create an optimal, naturally pleasing result. Dr Brusco is an established specialist in chin-wing osteotomy. This is a technique which is utilised in the aesthetic optimisation of the lower facial area. Frequent problems which are corrected by chin-wing profile optimisation are, for example, a receding or jutting chin, separately or in conjunction with a malocclusion (dysgnathia), adverse formation of the margin of the lower jaw and general lower jaw asymmetries. In the course of a chin-wing procedure, the contour-forming portion of the lower jaw can be removed and transferred in order thus to affect and adapt the closing of the lips, the prominence of the chin, the so-called jaw-line or the angle of the jaw aesthetically. The temporomandibluar joint and the position of the teeth are not unnecessarily affected thereby. Following the procedure, the patient will be delighted with a natural and harmonious facial contour. A further special technique which is used in Dr Brusco’s practice is so-called distraction osteogenesis. Here, the jaw bones can be extended or shifted to the desired extent in a natural manner: After the partial sectioning of the jaw bone at the suitable site, with the aid of a suitable apparatus, the two halves are slowly drawn apart in the desired direction over several days. New bone material forms continuously between the two halves. At the end of the treatment, due to the newly formed material, the bone has new dimensions and the desired size. A comprehensive facial analysis and detailed counselling always precede any treatment. With the aid of specially retouched portrait images, the expected surgical outcome is simulated in order thus to be able to set a goal together. Dr Brusco places great value on the patient feeling well-informed and knowing exactly what result he can expect following the treatment. Dr Brusco’s team performs out-patient surgery at his practice, even under general anaesthetic, if necessary. The Swiss Medical Association, FMH, has inspected the operating theatre of the practice and has approved this as a practice theatre. For more elaborate procedures, which require an in-patient admission with an overnight stay, the infrastructure of the renowned Pyramide am See Hospital is available nearby. The practice has the most advanced up-to-date technical facilities – hence, Dr Brusco’s practice possesses a state-of-the-art 3-D X-ray unit. This produces high-definition three-dimensional images in under 9 seconds, using the gentlest radiation dose. In his work, Dr Brusco is passionately committed to providing a suitable solution to each patient’s problem. Dr Brusco sees his task as considerably more than just a job. He views each patient as an individual, and there is no standard treatment.
