About us

In the Pediatric Clinic II of the Center for Child and Adolescent Medicine, we primarily treat diseases of the kidneys and the urinary tract, the liver and the intestinal tract, as well as hormonal imbalances in children and adolescents both on an outpatient and inpatient basis.

Our facility for pediatric nephrology is one of the largest pediatric nephrology centers in Germany and cares for patients with all congenital, geneticallyrelated as well as acquired diseases of the kidneys and the lower urinary tract including the bladder.

The spectrum in particular includes malformations, inflammatory renal diseases, glomerulopathy andnephrosis extending to the treatment of chronic renal insufficiency and arterial hypertension. Renal replacement therapy includes all dialysis procedures (peritoneal and hemodialysis, plasma separation) for children and adolescents of all ages.

An area of special expertise is kidney transplantation. Pediatric kidney transplantation living and deceased kidney donation, preemptive transplantation. Pediatric gastroenterology cares for patients with all congenital or acquired diseases of the liver and the digestive tract. The spectrum ranges from nutritional disorders to acute and chronic bowel diseases and includesmetabolic diseases and inflammation of the liver (hepatitis).

For children in acute and chronic hepatic failure, all detoxification procedures (plasmapheresis, MARS [liver dialysis]) including liver transplantation are always available (living liver donation, deceased liver donation, partial liver transplantation).

Child and adolescent endocrinology and diabetology diagnoses and treats all congenital and acquired disorders of hormonal metabolism (e.g. thyroid diseases, growth disorders, sexual hormone disorders, diseases of the adrenal glands including the adrenogenital syndrome, diabetes mellitus, and Prader-Willi syndrome) in our supraregional outpatient clinic for pediatric hormonal disorders.
