The emphases of Dr Klaus Mueller and his team at the Department of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery in Barmbek are autologous fat transplantation and surgical lifting procedures following weight loss. Due to severe weight loss, certain overweight individuals develop unsightly wrinkles in the previously firm areas of the skin, which only reduce in size to a limited extent. Here, thanks to a so-called body lift, the team can help to remove flaccid skin and fatty tissue on the trunk and at the extremities and to tighten other areas of the body. A variety of techniques are utilised, depending on the patient.
One of the most frequent techniques is the Lockwood circular body lift, in which Dr Klaus Mueller simultaneously removes skin, subcutaneous and fatty tissue in the abdominal region, on the flanks, the hips, the outside of the thigh and the buttocks. As a result, a circular, i.e. around the entire trunk, tightening is achieved. The autologous fat transplantation technique is frequently utilised for cosmetic correction, in which the body’s own tissues (fat cells) are removed from a certain area (e.g. the abdomen) and, after preparation, are re-injected in another area. In this way, for example, the breast can be enlarged or the signs of old age in the face can be reduced.
