It was possible for the Haus der Lunge (Lung Center) to be created at Essen by virtue of the partnership with the University Hospital, the Ambulantes Lungenzentrum Essen (Essen Outpatients Lung Center) and the Atmungs Reha Essen (Essen Breathing Rehabilitation Unit). The objective of this philosophy is the one-stop care of people with lung and airway problems by combining the provision of care in the areas of outpatients and hospitalization.
We provide high-power outpatients units for chest surgery, pulmonary fibrosis, pneumological interventions, clinical pneumology, cystic fibrosis, lung transplants and sleep and ventilation medicine.
The Ruhrlandklinik has one of the largest chest surgery units in Germany and houses three highly specialized pneumological departments in addition to the area of chest oncology. The subject of lung medicine at the Essen University Hospital, in clinics, research and teaching, is carried out in the Pneumology Department at Ruhrlandklinik. It has specialized in the diagnosis and the treatment with medication, apparatus and physical approaches of all diseases of the lungs, airways, chest wall and diaphragm.
We are especially expert in the treatment of sleep disorders and diseases of sleep apnea having an interdisciplinary team of specialist pneumologists, neurologists and psychiatrists.
We also concentrate on ventilation medicine, weaning off from ventilators, home respiration and special oxygen supply. There is a close networking with the Essen University Hospital in the field of cystic fibrosis and lung transplants. The lung transplant programis among the biggest of its kind in the world.
