About us

The Department  of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin forms part of the Centre of Musculoskeletal Surgery (CMSC) within the university structures and it is run by Prof. Markus Scheibel. As a specialist in orthopaedics and trauma surgery and an expert in shoulder disorders, Prof. Scheibel takes in the whole spectrum of conservative and surgical treatment of all acute injuries and degenerative shoulder, shoulder girdle and elbow joint diseases along with the necessary therapies following accidents and degenerative changes.

As a result of his long-standing cooperation with the Charité's Institute of Radiology he has managed to progressively advance the range of diagnostic services and adapt the clinical picture of patients. This enables swift diagnoses to be made and therapeutic measures to be taken. An individual follow-up treatment program and cooperation with local physiotherapists built up by Professor Dr. Scheibel ensure swift and ideal patient recovery and restoration of shoulder joint function.

Prof. Scheibel has had many years of experience in the field of shoulder surgery. Alongside his hospital activities, Prof. Scheibel works as an organiser and speaker of national and international events and is currently the president of the German Association for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (DVSE). He is also the recipient of the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and the Elbow (SECEC/ESSSE) video and poster prize and will be the 2017 conference chairman at the association's annual congress in Berlin. As part of the quest to constantly improve patient care, dialogue with other specialists and sharing techniques and methods are of key importance to Prof. Scheibel.
