About us

Since 1994, Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h.c. Jens Rassweiler has been the Medical Director of the Department of Urology Heilbronn. The department performs all modern diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the field of urology. Prof. Rassweiler introduced urological keyhole  surgery to Germany and the department is today an international leader.

In addition to the focus of minimally invasive therapies and urological oncology, all forms of medicinal therapy of urological tumors are performed, as well as pain therapy and palliative medicine.
The Department of Urology Heilbronn is a certified continence center and is a recognized competence center for the treatment of urolithiasis, benign enlargement of the prostate, the use of laser procedures and pediatric urology.

The treatment of prostate cancer is an important highlight of the department. The Department of Urology offers the entire treatment spectrum available for this disease. This ranges from the nerve-protective, and in Europe only performed at individual centers, laparoscopic or the da Vinci radical prostatectomy to the local application of a high radiation dose by means of implanting small radiating iodine particles (iodine seed brachytherapy) via the perineum. This makes it possible for the patient - irrespective of the stage of the tumor, his age and his general state of health - to select the best suited and most effective procedure to treat the prostate cancer.
The pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction which is usually treated by an open flank incision, is treated by us using a minimally invasive laparoscopic access point (SMART technique).
In curvature of the penis that is caused by plaque-like alterations of the cavernous body of the penis, the Department of Urology is one of the few centers in Germany that employs treatment with shock waves (ESWT).

The focus of clinical research lies in the area of minimally invasive techniques, whereby the newest devices (HD technology, robots, navigation, laser, shock waves) are being studied for their potential use in the treatment of urological diseases. Thus, the Department of Urology in Heilbronn is an internationally recognized training center for laparoscopic, endourological and robotic surgery.
