About us
The Department of Surgery offers multidisciplinary and highly qualified treatment of patients. Our declared aim is to link friendly and individual care of our patients to medical treatment of the highest level.
Diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities embrace the whole range of operative and conservative treatment procedures. Every procedure for minimally invasive surgery is well established, so that the Department is numbered among the most well known centers for minimally invasive surgery on the entire gastro-intestinal tract in Eurpoe. In addition, courses on laparoscopic operations are regularly run for interested colleagues from all over the world. High frequency thermoablation is used in liver surgery, in addition to navigated procedures. Standardized cutting edge procedures, such as stapled hemorrhoidectomy, STARROP and sacral nerve stimulation are used
in colorectal and continence surgery.
An additional focus is on the treatment of serious infections in the area of the abdomen. The Clinic includes an inter-disciplinary transplant center. We offer inter-disciplinary and patientoriented treatment through close collaboration of our specialist departments.
As befits the status of a university hospital, the best experiences with interventions of high degrees of difficulty exist, for instance, after preops and with high risk patients.
Therapeutic Services
In keeping with its status as a reference center for the Chirurgische Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Minimal-invasive Chirurgie (CAMIC) of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Chirurgie and of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Allgemein- und Viszeralchirurgie (German Society for General and Visceral Surgery (DGAV)), almost all abdominal interventions are carried out with minimally invasive techniques:

Special Offers / Arrangements / Rooms
A special focus of the Department of Surgery is not only on immediate pre and post operative care, but also, in particular, on the long-termoncological follow-up of the patients. For more than 20 years now, all patients with malignant tumors have been offered comprehensive, individualized and personalized after-care, which reaches far beyond the required, statutory standards.
Every patient with oncological diseases is evaluated by multi-disciplinary consensus at the tumor board, held weekly. This guarantees therapy at the highest scientific standards.
