Prof. Francisco J. De Moura Theophilo is a specialist in neurosurgery with over 30 years of experience who has headed the Neurosurgery and Spinal Surgery Department at the Helios Hospital, Munich West, since February 2018 and who also works at the second site of the Helios Hospital Munich in Perlach. As a spinal column specialist, Prof. Theophilo specializes in the treatment of disorders and injuries to the nervous system of the spinal column.
Thus, in particular, spinal canal stenosis and herniated disks are among Prof. Theophilo’s treatment emphases. As well, Prof. Theophilo focuses on tumor surgery to the spinal column, which is utilized for tumor conditions and metastases in the spinal column. His range of therapeutic services also includes osteoporotic vertebral collapse, spinal meningeomata and spondylolisthesis.
Prof. Theophilo completed his medical studies at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, followed by his specialist training as a neurosurgeon at the Neurosurgical Hospital of the Medical University of Hanover from 1978 to 1983. This was followed by numerous professional positions as Professor and Chief Physician in neurosurgical hospitals, where Prof. Theophilo was able to demonstrate his comprehensive expert knowledge in the field of neurosurgery and spinal surgery.
In Brazil, inter alia, he heads the Department of Functional and Stereotactic Neurochirurgy and the Pain Clinic at the National Cancer Institute in Rio de Janeiro, the Department of Neurosurgery at the São Vicente de Paulo Hospital and the Department of Neurosurgery and Neurology at the “Fernandes Figueira Institute” in Rio de Janeiro. He has also worked as a licensed specialist in neurosurgery and as the Principal Physician in the Department of Neurosurgery at the Helios-St. Elisabeth Hospital in Bad Kissingen.
Prof. Theophilo and his team work at the Helios Hospital, Munich West and at the second site, the Helios Hospital, Munich in Perlach, using state-of-the-art surgical techniques, including, for example, minimal invasive and microsurgery procedures and neuroendoscopic spinal surgery techniques.
