The Aorta Center South is a coalition of vascular surgeons from Helios hospitals in Bavaria and Baden-Wurttemberg. The Aorta Center is headed by Dr. Reza Ghotbi, who is also the Chief Physician of the Department of Vascular Surgery at the Helios Hospital in Munich West. As a certified endovascular specialist, the specialist in surgery, intestinal surgery and vascular surgery is an exceptional specialist in his field. Dr. Ghotbi’s long-standing experience in vascular surgery and his over ten years of activity as Chief Physician is of direct benefit to patients with arterial and venous system disorders. The Aorta Center focuses on the reliable diagnosis and rapid treatment of disorders of the aorta. The aorta can form aneurysms in the abdomen or in the thorax. These dilatations or expansions can remain undetected over a long period and may only lead to vague symptoms. Timely diagnosis and treatment is all the more important in order to minimize the risk of a tear (rupture) of the aortic aneurysm. Ultrasound screening of the abdominal aorta is a part of a vital preventive medical checkup for patients over 65 years of age which Dr. Ghotbi endorses unequivocally.
If abnormalities are detected in the blood vessel, a regular examination or a scheduled surgical procedure may be life-saving. The surgery is performed as open, via an abdominal incision, or, more frequently, as in endovascular procedure, via a femoral artery approach. Advanced stent prostheses enable the reliable and gentle treatment of a majority of abdominal aortic aneurysms. Lacerations, occlusions (stenoses) and constrictions of the aorta and of the vessels of the leg and the mesenteric arteries are also treated at the Helios Aorta Center. Cutting edge equipment is available for the diagnosis and interdisciplinary treatment of vascular tumors. The Aorta Center provides the combined specialist knowledge of vascular specialists under their technical leader, Dr. Ghotbi, for individually suitable treatment concepts. Together with the patient, highly qualified specialists will decide the further treatment procedure in accordance with the detailed discussion of the patient’s individual disease situation. Here, the personal welfare and the safety of the patient take center stage. The Department’s good quality figures corroborate the high quality standards of the Aorta Center’s medical care, which are in compliance with the current scientific level in vascular surgery.
