Dr. Martina Dombrowski, specialist in gynecology and obstetrics and gynecological oncology, has been the Chief Physician of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Wald Lutheran Hospital, Spandau since 2000. Prior to this, she worked here as Chief Resident since 1991. Together with the Breast Center, the Gynecological Cancer Center and the Level 1 Perinatal Center are also part of the department she heads. The Breast Center and the Gynecological Cancer Center are certified under the umbrella of the Oncology Center of the Wald Lutheran Hospital in Spandau in accordance with the criteria of the German Cancer Association and the German Senology Association.
Dr. Martina Dombrowski leads a highly qualified team, consisting of gynecologists, gynecological oncologists, perinatologists, delivery nurses and hospital nurses, who, together, care for their patients, who come to them during the most varied phases of life, with empathy and sensitivity. From delivery to specific benign and malignant conditions of the female organs and the breast, women are given optimal treatment here.
One of the most beautiful experiences in the day-to-day routine of the department is the around 2,200 births in the state-of-the-art delivery room. Here, the department fosters collaboration with the Department of Neonatology and is recognized as a Level 1 Perinatal Center – vital for premature births, high-risk or multiple pregnancies.
All benign and malignant conditions of the uterus, the ovaries or the Fallopian tubes are treated in the Department of Gynecology with the Gynecological Cancer Center. As a certified Breast Center, the Department specializes in the treatment of breast cancer. Dr. Dombrowski is conscious of the worries and anxieties of her patients and places the greatest value on a comprehensive diagnosis and joint decision making for as gentle as possible, age-adapted treatment, and integrates the most up-to-date diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. Care is supplemented by the psycho-oncologists, who seek to talk with each patient and offer their support. Dr. Dombrowski collaborates with an interdisciplinary team consisting of oncologists, radiotherapists, pathologists and radiologists in accordance with quality-assured guidelines and is guided by current international standards. An important factor in the treatment of breast cancer is also the restoration of the female breast from an esthetic point of view. Here, Dr. Dombrowski values the close collaboration with her colleagues in the Department of Plastic, Hand and Microsurgery.
Over 400 new patients suffering from breast cancer are treated each year at the Breast Center, the majority of whom are personally treated by the Chief Physician, whenever possible, maintaining the breast.
In weekly tumor conferences, Dr. Dombrowski and her team coordinate with established specialists in order to create an optimal and individually “tailored” therapeutic plan for each patient.

With a total of 503 beds, the Wald Lutheran Hospital in Spandau is one of the largest nonprofit hospitals in Berlin and is an academic teaching hospital of the Charité Berlin. Around 22,000 in-patients and around 70,000 out-patients are treated here annually.
