Prof. von Hodenberg’s treatment emphases include the use of the cardiac catheter for a precise examination and the assured diagnosis and minimal invasive treatment of the heart and the coronary vessels (stent implantation). Prof. von Hodenberg also specializes in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and in the interventional treatment of cardiac valve conditions (mitral clipping). In his team, complex arrhythmias are also treated with ablation. At the MediClin Cardiac Center in Lahr/Baden, patients will find a highly experienced specialist medical practitioner, optimally networked in specialist associations, and a competent contact for the entire spectrum of cardiovascular conditions in Prof. von Hodenberg.

Diagnostic Services

Noninvasive cardiology-internistic diagnostics
  • EKG: Stress EKG and long-term EKG
  • ST segment analysis
  • RR variability
  • Echocardiography
  • Stress echocardiography
  • Transesophageal echocardiography
  • 3-D echocardiography
  • Duplex sonography of all vascular regions
  • Cardiac pacemaker follow-up, ICD (defibrillator) checks
  • Sleep apnea screening
  • Abdominal and pleural sonography
Invasive cardiology diagnostics and treatment
  • The performance of diagnostic coronary angiography, including right and left ventricular angiography, pulmonary artery angiography and aortography. Here, for the benefit of the patient and due to a low vascular complication rate, coronary angiography is primarily performed via the artery in the wrist (radial artery).
  • Therapeutic procedures such as balloon dilatation = percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), implantation of vascular supports (stents). Medication-coated stents are used, as a rule, in order to prevent restenosis.
  • We are on 24-hour cardiac infarct standby.
  • Stent implantation for constrictions of the arterial vessels of the neck (internal carotid artery stenosis)
  • Implantation of umbrella systems for closure of atrial septal defects and patent foramen ovale
  • The entire range of invasive heart defect diagnostics, including simultaneous pressure measurement and transseptal puncture
  • Catheter-assisted aortic valve implantation (TAVI)
  • Interventional mitral valve reconstruction (mitral clipping) for mitral valve insufficiency
  • Mitral leaflet separation (valvuloplasty) for the treatment of mitral valve stenosis
  • Implantation of atrial umbrellas as a therapeutic alternative to lifetime blood thinning (anticoagulation)
