Surgical treatment of primary hyperhidrosis
Prof. Rudolf Ott, FACS (Fellow of the American College of Surgeons), specialist in surgery and special abdominal and thoracic surgery, is the Head of the Oncology Center certified by the German [text missing] and Head of the Intestinal Cancer Center and has been the Chief Physician of the Department of General, Vascular and Abdominal Surgery at the Wald Lutheran Hospital in Spandau, Berlin since 2013. His treatment focus is on the surgical treatment of gastrointestinal tumors (esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, hepatic, as well as tumors of the colon and rectum).
Prof. Ott particularly prizes the close collaboration with his colleagues in the Departments of Radiology, Gastroenterology, Oncology, Abdominal Surgery, Pathology and Radiotherapy because only in this manner can the optimal treatment be identified for the patient. In the course of this, the patient is not transferred from one ward to the other since, thanks to the multidisciplinary collaboration, “one-stop” care can be delivered. Prof. Ott ensures that his patients are informed concerning each treatment step in all phases of their condition and actively involves them in the therapeutic process.
In tumor surgery, alongside state-of-the-art diagnostic techniques, special endoscopy and endosonography, all conventional and laparoscopic surgical techniques are performed. Each case is discussed in detail along with the treatment options in the course of a regular tumor conference, so that, with the aid of expert opinions, the therapeutic plan which is the most effective for the patient concerned can be prepared for him. Here, the patient himself is given precise explanation and is also involved in the decision making. In esophageal surgery, Prof. Ott collaborates closely with other church hospitals in Berlin from which patients are referred for highly complex surgery and for whom surgery is performed, to an extent, together with the Chief Physicians there.
The Wald Lutheran Hospital is a district hospital and an emergency hospital and consequently Prof. Ott also treats cases such as gallbladder conditions, inflamed appendices, abscesses, hemorrhoids and fistulas right up to intestinal obstruction.
The specialist in oncology surgery, Prof. Ott, is an auditor and referee for intestinal and cancer centers across the whole of Germany and works for the German Cancer Association. Since 2009, he has been an Onkozert Specialist (German Cancer Association) for intestinal, pancreatic and oncology centers.
With over 500 beds, the Wald Lutheran Hospital in Spandau, Berlin is one of the largest nonprofit hospitals in Berlin and is an academic teaching hospital of the Charité Berlin. Here, around 21,000 in-patients and approximately 40,000 out-patients are cared for annually.
