About us

Prof. Eckart Schott has been the head of Department of Internal Medicine II at the Helios Emil von Behring Hospital in southwest Berlin-Zehlendorf since September 1, 2017. As an established liver specialist in the field of hepatology, he provides, together with his team, a comprehensive range of gastroenterology treatment. The specialist in internal medicine and gastroenterology previously worked as the Principal Consultant and Deputy Director of the Department of Hepatology and Gastroenterology at the Virchow Campus Hospital of the Charité in Berlin. His clinical emphases include hepatology and gastrointestinal radiology. As an established immunologist, Prof. Schott is concerned with the function of the immune system of the liver and its relevance in hepatic diseases. His research projects have included the field of cancer of the liver, autoimmune conditions of the liver and viral hepatitis. The Helios Emil von Behring Hospital provides an interdisciplinary and innovative range of treatments for patients with cancer conditions. Together with the specialized field of hepatology, this involves the services of oncology, abdominal surgery specializing in tumor conditions, interventional radiology and the in-house radiotherapy services of the ambulatory healthcare center. Thanks to the close collaboration of the specialists in the respective departments, the optimal treatment is developed for the patients. Above all, the Department specializes in conditions of the alimentary tract. There is an in-house certified center for the metabolic condition, diabetes mellitus. Prof. Schott and his team provide competent treatment for chronic and acute discomfort in the digestive tract. The state-of-the-art Helios Endoscopy Center in Berlin-Buch provides swift and dependable examination results for the diagnosis and hence ensures the fastest possible and most effective treatment. The Helios Emil von Behring Hospital is one of the most advanced medical centers in southwest Berlin. The hospital was formed by the amalgamation of three renowned Berlin hospitals, the Oskar Helene Home, the Heckeshorn Pulmonary Hospital and the Behring Hospital. The physicians treat approximately 25,000 in-patients, as well as approximately 55,000 out-patients annually.

We develop therapeutic concepts individually for each patient in the weekly tumor conference, and here, we are closely supported by our colleagues in the interdisciplinary specialist departments. Cancer conditions of the digestive organs are treated in close collaboration with the Department of Oncology, the Department of General, Abdominal and Minimal Invasive Surgery and, if required, the Department of Radiotherapy.
