About us

Prof. Joerg G. Albert has headed the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology at the Robert Bosch Hospital in Stuttgart as its Senior Consultant since 2016. Following his medical training in Germany and research stays in France, Belgium and the Ivory Coast, he specialised as a gastroenterologist and specialist in interventional endoscopy. He also accompanied his development as a scientist with a large number of endoscopic and interventional techniques in international collaborations. In the meantime, he has been internationally acknowledged as a renowned specialist in gastroenterology, hepatology, oncology and in interventional endoscopy. He acquired his qualification as a specialist in internal medicine and gastroenterology in 2008 and was appointed Professor at Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main in 2015.

Prior to commencing his activity in Stuttgart, Prof. Albert worked in a leading position in Medical Department 1 at the University Hospital in Frankfurt am Main. Together with his proficiency in interventional endoscopy, Prof. Albert specialised in the treatment of tumours of the gastrointestinal tract, the treatment of chronic inflammatory intestinal conditions and in the treatment of gallbladder, pancreatic and liver disorders. The Robert Bosch Centre for Tumour Disorders (RBCT) has been awarded prizes for the treatment of bowel cancer, cancer of the bile duct and pancreatic cancer and, as the Tuebingen-Stuttgart “Comprehensive Cancer Center”, is one of only 15 Oncology Centres of Excellence sponsored by the German Cancer Aid Association. For endoscopic procedures, such as those performed for the removal of gallstones, for example, Prof. Albert relies on minimally invasive techniques. These are gentler for the patient than open surgery and, at the same time, frequently more promising than medication-based treatments, or they can be combined with these treatments.

The Robert Bosch Hospital has five endoscopy examination rooms, equipped with the most up-to-date technology. Here, around 8,500 examinations were performed in 2016. Scientific research is an important concern of Prof. Albert. He advocates improving existing techniques and bringing innovative, new scientific techniques into routine use in order thus to be able to provide patients with the best possible therapy. His research emphases include direct inspection of the bile duct (cholangioscopy) and classic imaging techniques of the biliary and pancreatic system, as well as the development of resection techniques for tumours of the gastrointestinal tract. The team of experts under him offers the entire range of gastroenterology, hepatology and endocrinology treatments and is also specialises in chronic inflammatory intestinal disorders (such as Crohn’s disease), liver disorders (such as hepatitis B and hepatitis C) and metabolic disorders.
