Doctor Amadeus Hornemann is an acknowledged specialist in minimally invasive gynaecological procedures at the ETHIANUM Clinic in Heidelberg and also works as a consultant at the University Hospital, Departement of obstetrics and Gynecology, Mannheim. He has worked as a guest surgeon at several renowned hospitals, for example, in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and, as a lecturer with extensive experience in the field of surgical gynecology and trains other medical practitioners. His focus is on minimally invasive procedures.
These so-called laparoscopic procedures are beneficial for the patients for several reasons. Firstly, a large abdominal incision is not required in order to expose the surgical site. Instead of this, the surgeon makes a few small incisions. Through these, he introduces the optical instruments into the abdominal cavity and can view the image on a large screen using a camera. The surgeon introduces instruments into the abdominal cavity through further 5 to 10mm incisions; using these, he is able to perform the necessary surgical steps in the abdominal cavity. The optical instruments can be brought very near to the structures, which makes a detailed image possible. Due to the small incisions, the patient benefits from a reduced risk of infection and from less wound pain following the procedure.
The doctor performing the surgery, however, must have extensive surgical experience in order to perform this type of technology-supported procedure precisely and safely. Doctor Amadeus Hornemann is one of only approximately 80 specialists in gynecology and obstetrics in Germany who have been certified by the Gynaecological Endoscopy Association in accordance with MIC III. MIC III is the highest level of certification which gynecologists practicing surgery can achieve. For this, candidates must substantiate a high number of endoscopically performed gynecological procedures, also including complex procedures with an elevated degree of difficulty. Regular advanced training activity and attendance at symposia are also necessary for this. Thus, the MIC III certification objectively identifies Doctor Hornemann as a specialist in minimally invasive gynecological procedures.
Thus, Amadeus Hornemann has also performed the first ovarian surgery in the world without visible scars, by gaining access to the ovaries through the patient's stomach. As a pioneer in the field of laparoscopic gynecological surgery, in 2012, Doctor Hornemann established so-called 3-D laparoscopy in Germany, which is a further development of “simple” laparoscopy using a transmitted two-dimensional camera image. This technique creates a three-dimensional image and therefore the surgeon is able to operate more efficiently and with more precision. This advanced technique has also been available at the ETHIANUM Hospital since the beginning of 2016.
With all technical innovations, Dr. Hornemann’s first priority is the welfare of his patients. He accompanies his patients from the first consultation to the procedure and to the follow-up. Doctor Hornemann flies to Nairobi twice a year, where he treats women in need at no charge under the suspices of an aid organisation. Doctor Hornemann is listed on the Sanego evaluation portal and has been evaluated by many patients. You can view the evaluations here
