The PERSON is at the center of our attention
The HELIOS Heart Center Siegburg is one of the most modern specialist hospitals in Germany. We’re attaching the utmost importance to quality and transparency.
The hospital is not only the first German heart center to be certified since 1999 according to DIN EN ISO, but also the first hospital in Germany to publish its coefficients of performance in the form of an annual report since 1996, the federal evaluation by the Federal Agency for Quality Assurance (Bundesgeschaeftsstelle für Qualitaetssicherung, BQS) since 2005 and the evaluation by the AQUA Institute since 2010; they are all published on our internet website www.herzzentrum-lahr.de (keyword: quality).
With the goal in mind to optimize patient care from admission to discharge, HELIOS Heart Center Siegburg has restructured the organization of treatment at the Department of Heart, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery. Each patient is cared for by a fixed interdisciplinary team during their complete stay. To accomplish this, three teams have been formed, consisting of heart surgeons, anesthetists, consultants and fellows, surgery and intensive care personnel, registered nurses and perfusionists.
Each team operates independently under the guidance of an experience heart surgeon. S/he is responsible for the team and makes all organizational and medical decisions. Each team leader is assisted by a case manager in the planning of all organizational and administrative patient-related processes. The case manager is always in close contact with the team leader and, for example, is responsible for the completeness of exposure data and medical reports needed for inpatient treatment. Each patient’s path is planned by the case manager before the patient’s actual admission. Thus, the timeframe from admission to surgery can usually be shortened to less than a day. At the same time, the case manager is the central go-to person for each team’s patients and their relatives. S/he organizes the patient’s stay in the hospital with help from the team members and, together with social services, takes care of the patient’s discharge.
Our social worker is always on hand with help and advice in personal and insurance matters. In addition, she briefs patients about their rehabilitation options and coordinates these rehab measures.
Care and treatment is based on mutual trust between patients, staff members and referring physicians. For each patient, the best possible treatment plan is worked out in detailed consultations. From admission to discharge, we perform an interdisciplinary treatment. Our patients are always involved in their treatment plan by virtue of continuous and prompt information. Also, ideas and suggestions from our patients are picked up on and are instrumental in improving our quality.
It is our goal to help each patient with the best possible quality and, at the same time, respect their personal needs.
