Prof. Joerg Holstein is an eminent specialist in hip and knee endoprosthetics with a particular focus on minimal invasive techniques (AMIS, DAA). He gained his comprehensive experience and qualifications through collaboration with renowned specialists in Europe and the USA and thanks to his expertise at the University Hospital of the Saarland in Homburg, where he has been active for around 15 years altogether. Here, he was also the second Deputy Director of the Department of Trauma, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery between 2013 and 2018. In this Department, he continues to run the Endoprosthetics Section as its responsible physician.
In 2010, Prof. Holstein took his specialist examination in the field of orthopedics and trauma surgery. Since that time, he has gained a number of further qualifications: Special orthopedic surgery, special trauma surgery, hand surgery, manual medicine / chiropractic, physical therapy and balneology, emergency medicine and diagnostic radiology. These qualifications underscore Prof. Holstein’s medical competence and enable him to help to provide his patients with a better quality of life by means of treatment at the cutting edge of research. Prof. Holstein’s supreme guiding motto is: The individual takes center stage! Each patient brings along different requirements and thus presents different challenges in terms of medical treatment. Under pressure to classify his patients into standard cases and strictly regulated by the statutory health insurance companies, Prof. Holstein cannot fulfill his high aspirations for medical practice because the Hippocratic oath, to help people to the best of his knowledge and ability, is more than just a motto for Prof. Holstein.
For this reason, he moved into the private ETHIANUM Hospital in Heidelberg in October of 2018. Here, he can become fully involved with his patients and can provide them with customized treatment. At the same time, he also works as a collaborating physician at the Salem Hospital, a teaching hospital of the University of Heidelberg, where he can also treat patients insured under statute. In addition, Prof. Holstein is active in a number of relevant specialist associations, where he also occupies leading positions and thus actively helps to shape the development of the specialist field of orthopedics and associated fields. Prof. Holstein’s contribution to research, which is reflected in an extensive publication list, has also established his outstanding reputation among his colleagues.
