About us

Dr. Michael Schueler is a specialist in endoprosthetics at the Cantonal Hospital, Muensterlingen. Here, he is the Senior Orthopaedics Consultant and specialises in endoprostheses.

As a specialist, the experienced surgeon inserts replacements for the larger joints that is, so-called total hip endoprostheses, total knee endoprostheses and, at the same time, total endoprostheses or partial endoprostheses. Dr. Schueler’s further particular treatment emphases also include arthroscopy of the hip and tibial osteotomy.

By means of these options, Dr. Schueler in Muensterlingen can treat conditions such as osteoarthritis of the hip or of the knee joint, for example.

In the process, the endoprosthetics specialist in Muensterlingen constantly works at the highest technical level, both in conservative and in surgical treatments. For Dr. Schueler and his team, the safety and well-being of the patient come first.

To this end, the Senior Orthopaedics Consultant collaborates with highly specialised colleagues, who themselves have specialised in an area and who have become specialists, for example, in the area of hand surgery and in the treatment of osteoarthritis in the sacroiliac joint.

The particular expertise of Dr. Schueler as a specialist in endoprosthetics is in surgery to the hip, knee and ankle joint. This can occur both at a younger age and at an advanced age and must be distinguished from conditions affecting the lumbar spine. The pain of osteoarthritis in the sacroiliac joint is similar to the pain originating in the intervertebral discs or so-called neuralgia.

At the same time, the causes of pain in the sacroiliac joint are varied and can be caused by instabilities in the ligaments, muscular weaknesses or as the result of an accident, for example.

As treatment, Dr. Schueler utilises conservative measures, such as physiotherapy in combination with anti-inflammatory drugs, for example. For an instability, special belts are used and the administration of cortisone is also considered to be a conservative technique.

Only if the pain due to the osteoarthritis in the sacroiliac joint continues to be severe and leads to impairment, does Dr. Schueler consider, in collaboration with Dr. Blay, a surgical intervention. In this surgical technique, the barely movable sacroiliac joint is fused, which is considered to be a good treatment alternative to those mentioned above.

Dr. Schueler himself studied in Bochum, at the University of Erlangen and Munich in Germany before he came to Switzerland as a consultant. Here, he has been the Senior Consultant of the Orthopaedics and Traumatology Clinic at the Cantonal Hospital, Muensterlingen, since 2004.
