About us Asst. Lect. Dr. Sandro Kohl

Asst. Lect. Dr. Sandro Kohl is an FMH specialist physician in orthopedic surgery and traumatology of the muscular skeletal system. He has been active in the field of orthopedic surgery as an in-patient physician at the Hirslanden Hospital in Zurich since 2017; previously, he headed the Department of Knee Surgery and Sports Traumatology at the Berne University Hospital for several years.

Asst. Lect. Dr. Kohl completed his training at various renowned hospitals, including at the Berlin Charité, at the ATOS Hospital in Heidelberg and at the Berne University Hospital, Inselspital. Here, he has a teaching appointment in orthopedic surgery and traumatology, focusing on knee surgery. His clinical and academic emphases are knee surgery, trauma surgery (traumatology) and sports traumatology. Here, he prefers to perform gentle arthroscopic procedures, in which maintaining the existing structures are in the foreground. The reconstruction, correction and rebuilding of ligaments, joints and cartilage frequently show better prospects of success in the long term. Asst. Lect. Dr. Kohl’s extensive service portfolio also includes the minimal-invasive implantation of artificial, patient-specific 3-D knee joints using the Rapid Recovery technique. A further focus is revision surgery for highly complex injuries to the knee joint and painful knee prostheses. Thanks to his wide expertise and years of experience, he has mastered all surgical techniques with the greatest certainty.

Asst. Lect. Dr. Kohl is also the author of a large number of scientific papers. His enormously extensive list of publications underscores Asst. Lect. Dr. Kohl’s great expertise in the field of knee surgery, sports traumatology and complex revision surgery. He has been honored with multiple awards and prizes for his clinical and scientific work; together with his colleagues, was also awarded the Innovation Prize of the German Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery Association for the development of a new technique for the preservation of the anterior cruciate ligament where there is a cruciate ligament tear.

In addition, Asst. Lect. Dr. Kohl is involved as an expert in multiple national and international specialist associations, including the Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery Association (AGA) and the European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA).
