About us

Asst Lect. Dr. Thomas Stark has been the Chief Physician of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and Plastic Surgery in the Tumor Center of the HELIOS Hospital, Munich West since 2016. His focus is on the application of cochlear implants, which bring new life to people with severe hearing impairment. Pforzheim-born Asst Lect. Dr. Thomas Stark completed his studies in human medicine at the Ruhr University in Bochum, completed his specialist studies in otorhinolaryngology in 2001 and his doctorate in the discipline in 2012. Prior to his position as Chief Physician, he was the Principal Consultant and Deputy Clinical Director at the Rechts der Isar Hospital of the Technical University of Munich.

The Department of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) at HELIOS in Munich is one of the largest departments in the southern Bavarian region and, in Dr. Stark, has gained a pioneer in the field of otorhinolaryngology because the ENT specialist has the additional qualification for “special head and neck surgery”, as well as for “plastic surgery” and has established his specialist field in the hospital: inner ear prostheses, so-called cochlear implants (CI), which are hearing prostheses for deaf persons or for persons with severe hearing loss whose auditory nerve has not been completely destroyed. Thanks to a cochlear implant, people with a high degree of hearing impairment are given the possibility of moving easily within their accustomed surroundings once again and of escaping their social isolation. Dr. Stark is listed as one of Munich's top medical practitioners and is a member of the German Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery Association and of the Mediterranean Society of Otology and Audiology. Dr. Stark values his close links with the other departments of the hospital highly and he encourages specialist exchange, above all with the associated specialist departments medically important to him, such as Speech Therapy or Audiometry.
