Dr. Wolfgang Gesierich is a specialist in internal medicine with a specialist qualification in pneumonology and an additional qualification in emergency medicine. As a renowned pneumonologist and specialist in diagnostic and interventional bronchoscopy, Dr. Gesierich heads the Lung Center at the HELIOS Hospital, Munich West, opened in July 2018, which specializes in the diagnosis and interdisciplinary treatment of acute, chronic and malignant conditions of the lungs and airways, as its Chief Physician. Lung specialists from the various medical disciplines, including pneumonologists, cardiologists, ENT specialists and oncologists, collaborate at the Lung Center, Munich West in an interdisciplinary fashion in order to be able to treat patients from the Munich metropolitan region and the southern German area optimally and at a high medical standard. Hence, the team of specialists under the Chief Physician, Dr. Gesierich, which is comprised not only of medical specialists but also experienced therapists and nurses, makes state-of-the-art, holistic care of patients with lung and airways disorders possible.

Together with infectious diseases and tumor conditions in the bronchi, lungs or pleura, the conditions which are predominantly treated by Dr. Gesierich and his team at the Lung Center, Munich West also include chronic-obstructive lung conditions, pulmonary interstitium conditions such as pulmonary fibrosis and sleep-related respiratory disorders and conditions of the pulmonary circulation. Multisystem conditions of the lungs such as mucoviscidosis are also treated in an interdisciplinary fashion at the Lung Center of the HELIOS Hospital, Munich West. Further treatment emphases are pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary emphysema. A comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic range of services is available to the team under the Chief Physician Dr. Gesierich for the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions. Above all, diagnostic and interventional bronchoscopy (examination of the lung) plays an important role here since Dr. Gesierich possesses wide experience and outstanding expertise in this field. He demonstrates this regularly, inter alia, in the course of his teaching activities at the annual 3-day Gauting Bronchoscopy Course, at the annual one-day EBV Academy in Gauting and at the ILD Specialist Center in Gauting. Prior to his appointment as the Chief Physician of the Lung Center, Munich West in July 2018, Dr. Gesierich most recently worked as the Chief Resident in the Pneumonology Department of the Asklepios Specialist Hospitals in Munich-Gauting since June 2008, where he was responsible for patient admissions, the Differential Diagnostic Ward and the central Bronchoscopy Department.
