About us

Dr. Joerg Weber is the Chief Physician of the general and abdominal surgery and coloproctology oriented Department of Surgery at the Eduardus Hospital in Cologne. The clinical treatment focus of Dr. Weber is the diagnosis and treatment of conditions of the intestines (coloproctology), the thyroid gland and hernia surgery. The treatments provided include the wide spectrum of colorectal surgery and proctology, for conditions around the anus. Pelvic floor surgery provides various techniques for incontinence and defecation disorders. This includes minimal invasive treatment of rectal prolapse, enterocele and rectocele by means of D’Hoore ventral rectopexy as a SILS procedure. Hemorrhoids, as well as complicated anal fistulas and pilonidal abscess and various intestinal tumors are treated equally competently and comprehensively by Dr. Weber as chronic inflammatory intestinal conditions (ulcerative colitis / Crohn’s disease). Thyroid conditions require an interdisciplinary therapeutic concept from the diagnosis right through to the treatment. Together with your referring primary care physician, endocrinologist or nuclear medicine specialist, Dr. Weber plans the individualized surgical treatment of your thyroid condition. The most advanced minimal invasive surgical techniques are employed for the partial or complete surgical removal of the thyroid gland (thyroidectomy) or the thyroid lobe (hemithyroidectomy) in order to make the optimal healing process possible for you. Patients with hernias, that is, inguinal hernias, umbilical or incisional hernias, as well as hiatus hernias or abdominal wall hernias are in the best of hands with Dr. Weber and his surgical team at the Cologne-Deutz Hernia Center. Since two no hernias are the same, there is no single ideal surgical technique; on the contrary, a “tailored approach” to patients with the optimal result results in recovery.

Open and endoscopic surgical techniques, as well as various stabilizing meshes, which are introduced at the hernia site, are available for this. In particular, advanced techniques are available for large incisional hernias. The team has wide expertise in treatment by means of MILOS, e MILOS and TAR. Very large incisional hernias are pretreated by means of targeted botox injection into the oblique abdominal musculature, if required. In infrequent cases, the insertion is also required of a so-called progressive pneumoperitoneum. Dr. Weber works with the most-up-to-date and, for the patient, very gentle techniques. The SILS technique (Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery) is particularly innovative and pioneering. Dr. Weber has established this surgical technique in the operating room of the Eduardus hospital. Here, surgery in the abdominal cavity can be performed via a unique small incision, only approximately two centimeters in length, through the umbilicus. For the patient, this technique means, above all, a more rapid and comparatively comfortable therapeutic progress. The SILS technique promises reduced pain after the surgery, as well as a very pleasing cosmetic result. The length of stay in the hospital can thus be reduced and the patient can soon return to his everyday routine again. With its targeted investment in hospital equipment and quality management, the Eduardus Hospital is able to provide comprehensive medical treatment of the highest standard. Thanks to its high standard of medical care, the Eduardus Hospital and the Department of Surgery under its Chief Physician, Dr. Weber, has yet again been distinguished as a certified Coloproctology Center (certified by the Professional Association of Coloproctologists, Germany e.V.). The Eduardus Hospital is also a certified Consulting Center of the German Continence Association. As a surgeon, Dr. Weber is also the Head of the Cologne-Deutz Hernia Center and a member of the “Cologne Intestinal Center e.V.” physicians’ network.
