About us

Dr. Kathleen Schwarz heads the Hematology and Oncology Section of Medical Department II of the HELIOS Hospital, Munich West, of the Academic Teaching Hospital of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. If patients suffer from a blood condition or a malignant tumor, Dr. Schwarz and her Hematology and Oncology Section provide the optimum treatment with the most up-to-date medical insights and methods – whether for acute leukemia or for other cancer conditions. Precise assessments and the best therapeutic techniques can be developed thanks to the extensive interdisciplinary tumor diagnostics (endoscopy, imaging by means of CT / MRI, histology specimens acquired by means of endoscopic, CT- or ultrasound-guided biopsy, surgical excision, bone marrow puncture). The respective tumor treatment techniques are individually adapted to the respective patient, from chemotherapy to immunotherapy (treatment with monoclonal antibodies).

The comprehensive in-patient care by Dr. Schwarz and her team and the in-patient care nursing by specially trained healthcare and nursing staff guarantee a rapid recovery process. Patients with an advanced, incurable disease progression are given balanced psychological-medical care by the ward’s competent and empathetic Palliative Care Team, for whom the stabilization of the psychological and physical condition of the patient is paramount. Thanks to close collaboration with the Catholic and Protestant Hospital Chaplaincy and Social Services, the holistic care of the patients can be complemented in order to be able better to manage the daily routine after the hospital stay. Dr. Schwarz and her colleagues include specialists from other hospitals and independent medical colleagues whenever infrequent therapeutic techniques are required in particular cases or further strategies must be coordinated in order to optimize the healing process. Dr. Schwarz accompanies her patients at every stage of their cancer condition and deals sensitively with their worries, their fears and their requests.
