The Orthopaedic and Accident Surgery Rehabilitation Clinic under the direction of Prof. Gert Krischak is the largest of the specialised departments within the Federsee Therapy Centre in Bad Buchau. In addition, the specialist departments of Neurology, Psychosomatic Medicine, Internal Medicine and Rheumatology contribute to a high concentration of medical expertise at the Therapy Centre. With a total of around 550 beds, the Therapy Centre is one of the largest rehabilitation centres in the country.
The medical field is uniquely complemented by the “Adelindis thermal baths” (thermal baths awarded 5 Wellness Stars), located at the Federsee Hospital, including 6 warm baths and pools, as well as generous sauna facilities.
As a specialist in orthopaedic rehabilitation in Bad Buchau, at the same time, Prof. Gert Krischak is Head of the Scientific Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine Research at the University of Ulm, which has its headquarters in Bad Buchau. The internationally renowned research institute under Prof. Gert Krischak is substantially engaged in the further scientific development of rehabilitation medicine and, in addition, trains young doctors from the University of Ulm in rehabilitation medicine.
Prof. Gert Krischak is a specialist in orthopaedics and accident surgery, special accident surgery, a specialist surgeon, a specialist in sports medicine and physiotherapy. He specialises in follow-up treatment following orthopaedic surgery on major joints, such as after endoprosthetic surgery on the hip, the knee, the shoulder and the upper ankle joint, after major tumour surgery, such as after a tumour excision, replacement surgery or complex tumour arthroplasty, and following accident treatment with severe and very severe accident sequelae. He has wide experience in the follow-up treatment after spinal and joint surgery, as well following as sports injuries.
For particular indications there are special treatment units, such as cognitive behavioural orthopaedic rehabilitation, where, together with orthopaedic rehabilitation, comprehensive concomitant psychological treatment or intensive work-orientated rehabilitation (MBOR) is given. As a specialist in joint and muscular conditions, Prof. Gert Krischak has available the most up to date therapeutic techniques such as radial (rESWT) and focused shock wave therapy (ESWT) for the treatment of chronic tendon irritation and sports injuries, the treatment of joint and spinal infiltration, manual therapy and special sports medical forms of treatment, such as kinesiotaping.
Prof. Gert Krischak is the author of numerous international and national specialist publications and text-books in the field of rehabilitation medicine and has been awarded several prizes by various professional associations. Most recently, he was awarded the 2013 Jochen Loehr Prize by the German Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Association (DVSE), for a follow-up programme developed by him for shoulder injuries.
