About us

Dr. Heinz Roettinger is the Chief Physician of the Department of Endoprosthetics and Orthopedics at the Benedictus Hospital in Tutzing. He has extensive expertise in the field of endoprosthetics and orthopedics. In the course of over 30 years, he has implanted more than 20,000 artificial joints. Thanks to his longstanding experience, Dr. Heinz Roettinger can be numbered among the pioneers in the field of endoprosthetics and he has also developed and optimized techniques in this field himself. The minimal invasive Roettinger approach named for him is used worldwide and stands for an extremely gentle technique. In using this technique, no muscles are severed during the insertion of a hip endoprosthesis. The patient’s blood loss is minimized, the patient has less pain overall, is mobile sooner and the overall healing process is considerably shortened.

Many people suffer from osteoarthritis, that is, from joint wear, in old age. In this degenerative condition, the load-reducing sliding surface of the joint, the cartilage, wears out and so the joints gradually become painful and their function is limited. Replacement with an artificial joint may become necessary where there is major limitation and a severe degree of suffering. After an accident or a sports injury, too, the insertion of an endoprosthesis may be necessary due to the chronic painful changes in the joint. The Department of Endoprosthetics provides the entire range of up-to-date care including revision endoprosthetics and the insertion of special implants. Dr. Roettinger and his team discuss each case thoroughly and individually in order to pursue the optimum course of treatment for each individual patient. After a precise analysis of the clinical picture, the use of the prosthesis type and a precise surgical technique are decided on. The personal situation of the patient such as his age, occupation, activities and possible desire for athletic pursuits must be taken into consideration.

In this way, a very high degree of lasting satisfaction and quality of life is achieved for the patients following endoprosthetic treatment. The demanding standard of care of the endoprosthetics specialist Dr. Heinz Roettinger and his team is also reflected in that his department meets the quality standards of the German Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery Association and has therefore been awarded endoCert certification as an Endoprosthetics Center.
