Dr. med. Verena Mandelbaum is a specialist in paediatric and adolescent medicine with the additional designation of "allergology” and "paediatric pneumology”. She opened her specialised practice for respiratory diseases & allergies in children & adolescents back in the year 2000. Since 2014 she has transferred the practice to the well-known ATOS Hospital in Heidelberg, also enabling patients to benefit from its excellent infrastructure. As a specialist in allergology and respiratory diseases focussing on children, Dr. Mandelbaum is actively involved in various national and international medical associations and so participates in the ongoing exchange of the latest scientific knowledge. In order to make a diagnosis, detailed involvement with a child and his/her medical history is of prime importance. As part of this medical history Dr. Mandelbaum queries the conditions under which a child has been raised and his/her social environment. The report about the medical conditions experienced is also very important, and Dr. Mandelbaum attaches great importance to conversing with a child.
Dr. Mandelbaum therefore takes as long as is needed to establish a level of trust. The conversation is usually followed by a physical examination which can vary in form depending upon the child’s disorder, suspected diagnosis and age. The diagnostic facilities at the practice are state-of-the-art and enable pulmonary diagnoses such as spirometry, impulse oscillometry, broncholysis and body plethysmography. In the event of symptoms such as itching, skin rash, sneezing and coughing Dr. Mandelbaum also frequently employs allergy tests, for cases of abdominal pain or changes in bowel habits an H2 breath test can also be performed to identify a lactose intolerance or fructose intolerance in order to make a corresponding diagnosis or rule out an allergy. So the child-friendly and invitingly furnished specialist practice for respiratory diseases & allergies combines a stress-free and welcoming atmosphere with the latest diagnostic technology.
The practice staff always make allowance for the age and stage of development of each young patient so as not to frighten or overtax a child. The therapy also depends on the individual case: As a result of her more than 20 years working as a doctor in paediatric medicine Dr. Mandelbaum has broad experience and always treats her patients medical conditions on the following basis: as much as is needed, as little as possible. Dr. Mandelbaum further attaches great importance to training patients, parents and also those closely involved. This enables all those giving care to adjust to the disorder and if necessary to respond confidently to allergic or asthmatic episodes. If people in the social environment know a patient’s particular intolerances, symptoms can be considerably lessened, which in turn aids in a successful therapy outcome.
