He has held the Chair of Orthopedics at the Heinrich Heine University of Dusseldorf since 1999.
Prof. Krauspe’s clinical emphases are the surgical treatment of diseases, injuries and malfunctions of the musculoskeletal system in children and adults and sports medicine. He has been a committed member of the Board and President of various national and international specialist associations for many years over the last two decades and thus has actively shaped advanced specialist training and specialization in orthopedics. His extensive list of publications and his activity as a reviewer of scientific specialist journals contribute to his internationally distinguished reputation as a specialist in orthopedics. In the Department of Orthopedics headed by Prof. Krauspe, the specialists treat conditions and injuries to the skeletal and motor system. This includes malformations, deformities, neuromuscular conditions and their sequelae, tumors, and, above all, degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis and acquired malfunctions of the motor system, as well as acute injuries and injury sequelae of the bones, joints, tendons and muscles in patients of all ages. The therapeutic range of services also includes joint-maintaining surgery and endoprosthetics (joint replacement), spinal surgery, tumor surgery and foot surgery and all procedures for neonates, infants, children and adolescents. In the field of endoprosthetics, the Department has qualified for the endoCert certification of the German Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery Association as a Maximum Care Endoprosthetics Center. This certification stands for transparent, excellent treatment quality in the application of artificial joints.
The orthopedics specialists under Prof. Krauspe at the Department of Orthopedics in Dusseldorf work with the most up-to-date medical technology. This includes the most advanced air conditioning, which ensures a pathogen-free environment. During a procedure, the surgeons can employ computer assisted systems (Computer Assisted Operation System, CAOS), which enable an even higher degree of precision for complicated procedures on the spinal column, pelvis or knee joint. Digital x-ray techniques and computer-aided instrument-based gait and movement analysis systems, for example, are employed for diagnosis and examination. Particularly gentle surgical techniques, early mobilization and rehabilitation are targeted at as rapid as possible recovery following an illness and/or surgery.
