Asst Lect. Dr Klaus Exner has over 40 years experience as an international specialist in plastic and cosmetic surgery. After qualifying as a specialist surgeon, he completed a long-term training course in hand surgery and microsurgery under Prof. Dieter Buck-Gramcko and in plastic and cosmetic surgery under Prof. Gottfried Lemperle. He succeeded them in 1994 at the Markus Hospital in Frankfurt am Main and was the head of this renowned hospital until the end of 2013.
Since that time, he has worked as a plastic surgeon at an independent plastic surgery practice in Frankfurt and Oberursel and performs major surgery in the hospitals of the Hochtaunus district in Bad Soden and in interdisciplinary tumour centres such as at the Frankfurt/Hoechst Hospital. Out-patient surgery is performed at the Frankfurt Hochtaunus Plastic Surgery Centre in Oberursel.
His specialist emphases are facial cosmetic surgery, reconstructive surgery for congenital malformation, breast surgery, reconstructive surgery for facial paralysis, surgery for female to male transsexuality and microsurgery.
Over his scientific career, he has produced 140 scientific publications and contributions to books. Dr Klaus Exner has presented over 600 lectures at national and international conferences. He has organised and, as president, has lead a number of conferences.
He has been active on the board of the German Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgery Association (DGPRAeC, formerly VDPC) and the German Cosmetic-plastic Surgery Association (VDAePC) for over 20 years, as treasurer, vice president and president. Dr Exner also sits on committees of the German Federal Medical Association and the Hesse State Medical Association. He is a member of the German Senology Association and he has been honoured as a Senior Breast Surgeon by Onkozert.
Dr Klaus Exner has been listed among the best plastic surgeons in the FOCUS Medical Practitioner’s List for many years, with the specifications breast surgery, facelift and plastic eyelid surgery.
He has received prestigious awards for his international aid work with INTERPLAST Germany, Prointerplast Seligenstadt, BigShoe and MIT, such as the Pitzer Prize and the Dieffenbach Medal of the German Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgery Association.
Each year, Dr Klaus Exner is involved in developing countries, where he voluntarily performs surgery on children with the most severe deformities such as cleft lip and palate, burns, tumours and other conditions. Currently, aid programmes are planned in the Ukraine, in Burma and in Paraguay.
