About us

Dr. Sebastian Herrmann is the Chief Resident of the Department of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery and is a specialist in orthopedics and trauma surgery, with a focus on shoulder and elbow surgery, at the Helios Emil von Behring Hospital in Berlin Zehlendorf. Previously, he worked in the Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Section at the Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery at the Charité in Berlin, where he concentrated on the conservative and surgical treatment of degenerative and traumatic injury in the region of the shoulder. Pain in the region of the shoulder generally leads to a severe limitation of the course of movement of the upper body. Causally, these are either injury-, inflammation- or disease-related and should be treated as quickly as possible. Chief Resident Dr. Herrmann and his colleagues take sufficient time to carry out a comprehensive clinical and imaging diagnosis since only then is the optimal therapeutic planning possible. The specialist in surgery to the shoulder and elbow joint restores pain-free function of the joint by means of the most advanced, minimal invasive and arthroscopic surgical techniques. With its four joint surfaces, three bones, three muscle groups and numerous tendons and ligaments in the joint capsule, the shoulder constitutes a particular construction, which is to be treated with the greatest of care. When required, Dr. Herrmann also performs endoprosthetic surgery and revision procedures in the case of prosthesis loosening. The entire range of elbow joint surgery and the implantation of elbow joint prostheses are also covered by Dr. Herrmann and his highly qualified team. The shoulder or the elbow is treated using intramedullary (in the bone marrow space) and fixed osteosynthesis techniques, in which individual bone fragments are reattached using various aids such as screws, nails, plates and wire. Dr. Herrmann is the author of scientific articles on the topic of shoulder endoprosthetics and has given numerous presentations at national and international specialist conferences. As a shoulder specialist, he is a member of the German Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Association (DVSE) and the AGA, the Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery Association. In 2015, the newspaper, the Berliner Kurier published the Berlin Physicians Report, in which Dr. Herrmann was listed as the Top Surgeon for the shoulder.
