About us

The sports orthopedics specialist Christoph Bruhns is a specialist in orthopedics and is the Chief Physician of the Department of Sports Orthopedics and Arthroscopy at the Eduardus Hospital in Cologne. This specialist hospital provides individually customized treatment for sports injuries, signs of wear and disorders of the large joints. Across Germany, competitive and recreational sportsmen and sportswomen place their confidence in S.C. Fortuna Cologne’s team physician, Christoph Bruhns. Arthroscopy, that is, minimal invasive procedures on joints requiring treatment, is a particular focus of the sports medical department. Christoph Bruhns and his team personally perform over 1200 arthroscopies per year. The smallest incisions possible, precise treatment and a rapid recovery period distinguish these tissue-sparing joint techniques. This joint inspection is advantageously utilized in order to place the patients under as little as possible stress in comparison with major open techniques. The sports orthopedics service portfolio includes the treatment of cartilage and ligament injuries of the knee, hips, ankle, shoulder and elbow. Chief Physician Dr. Bruhns, with his wide experience and sure instincts, also treats complex injuries, such as impingement syndromes, rotator cuff tears of the shoulder joint, meniscal injuries or chronic joint pain conditions, which restrict movement and the quality of life in equal measure. Osteoarthritis, as painful joint wear is also called, can appear in all large joints. The innovative cartilage transplantation technique is successfully utilized by Chief Physician Dr. Bruhns for cartilage damage. This state-of-the-art technique is based on artificially propagated endogenous cartilage cells, which regenerate the damaged cartilage once more. The cartilage surface regrown using this technique is planted in the joint minimal invasively and, after a six month healing phase, makes a return to light forms of sport and pain-free movement possible once more.
