Aortic aneurysms, that is, the pathological dilatation of a blood vessel, are examined by Dr Daum at the Hamburg Vascular Centre using imaging techniques such as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) or angiography. As well as preventing or reducing risk factors (e.g. high blood pressure, lipid metabolic disorders or overweight), the implantation of stents (vascular support) and the surgical procedures which have stood the test of time are employed at the Vascular Centre in Harburg.
In the diagnosis of arterial occlusive disease at the Hamburg Vascular Centre, together with determining the artery occlusion pressures, colour-coded duplex sonography, for example, plays a particularly important role. Stress-free for the patient, this provides information about the condition of the blood vessels, potential deposits and the blood flow. As well, CT, MRT or angiography, inter alia, are utilised in the therapeutic planning. The treatment can be conservative / medication-based or surgical using the catheter technique, balloon dilatation and stent implantation or open surgery. For the hybrid technique, in which several techniques are used in combination, Dr Daum can rely on a special operating theatre with the most advanced, technically highly qualified equipment at the Hamburg Vascular Centre.
