Our Division of Vascular Surgery is the largest in French speaking Switzerland. The treatment of aneurysmal and occlusive vascular diseases is carried out conventional surgical, endovascular, combined or laparoscopic according to international standards. It comprises the treatment of disorders of the aorta, the carotid artery, the gastrointestinal arteries and the peripheral arteries, hemodialysis access surgery, kidney transplantation and the treatment of venous insufficiency (varicose veins, post-thrombotic syndrome).
We offer excellent services in the area of medical treatment and act as a reference point in Switzerland. Our research is focused on the different hemodynamic and biologic mechanisms involved in restenosis (intimal hyperplasia).
Due to the constant and significant rise of vascular disorders and in order to promote this specialty at our institute and in Switzerland, the general administration has created a Division of Vascular Surgery. The surgical team consists of a chief of staff, 2 assistant chief of staffs, 4 in-patient physicians, 2 senior consultants and 5 consultants.
Because of this team of vascular surgeons, the division is able to guarantee a professional specialist treatment of vascular diseases 24/7.
Cases of patients in need of revascularization are consequently discussed in interdisciplinary conferences of interventional radiologists, angiologists and vascular surgeons. Regular conferences with neurologists, neuroradiologists, angiologists and vascular surgeons are organized for the treatment of carotid artery disorders.
Regular conferences with angiologists, radiologists, nephrologists and vascular surgeons are organized for hemodialysis access surgery.
The division has initiated numerous cooperations with regional and cantonal hospitals and thus has become a center of reference for its cooperation partners.
