Magnetic resonance tomography or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is one of the imaging techniques used in radiology. It is used above all for the precise imaging of soft tissue or organs.
Magnetic resonance tomography provides precise sectional images in high resolution, which the specialist can use to assess structures and functions - and their diseases and disorders. With MRI, the entire body can be examined, in which case it is referred to as a whole-body MRI. But individual body parts or organs can also be examined in this way. For example, there is the MR-Sellink examination, which can be used to detect inflammations, constrictions or tumors in the small intestine. The abdominal MRI, which is also frequently used, examines the abdominal cavity, while the cardio MRI covers the heart and coronary vessels. Magnetic resonance imaging of the skull, the cervical spine and the joints, f.e. the knee joint, is also performed.
