The number of strokes is increasing due to the dietary and lifestyle habits of people and to the demographic aging of society. Time is of the essence in the case of a stroke. The quicker the patient is given competent help, the greater the chance of saving him and of his being able to return to everyday life unimpaired.

The treatment of acute neurological emergencies requires both a specialised organisational structure, enabling a rapid response in an emergency, and adequate hospital facilities and trained personnel with extensive experience in the care of stroke patients. Thanks to the close collaboration of neurologists, neurosurgeons and neuroradiologists, the Neuro Centre in Altona provides the optimal care for this type of emergency patient, as well as for patients with all other neuronal conditions.

These include medical conditions of the brain and of the spinal cord, as well as complex disorders of the peripheral nervous system, the musculature and of the associated blood supply. Many conditions develop insidiously and do not initially manifest distinct symptoms. Early recognition of pathological changes in these areas, therefore, is of the greatest importance. Thus, within the framework of the specialist field of neuroradiology, the Altona Neuro Centre has state-of-the-art diagnosis techniques available, such as two 64-multidetector row CTs, two MRIs and two angiography units.
