About us

Prof. Carsten Buenger is a specialist vascular surgeon and endovascular surgeon and therefore a specialist in vascular conditions in Berlin and the region. His emphases are on endovascular (catheter treatment) and open surgical treatment of conditions of the aorta, the surgical treatment of constrictions of the carotid arteries, combination procedures (open surgical and endovascular) for Charcot’s syndrome (PAOD) and the insertion of vascular access for dialyse.

As the Senior Consultant of the Department of Vascular Medicine at the Vivantes Humboldt Hospital in Reinickendorf and the Spandau Vivantes Hospital, he oversees the vascular medical treatment of out-patients and in-patients in the north of Berlin and the region.

Within the interdisciplinary Berlin Nord Vascular Centre, which is certified by the German Vascular Surgery Association and the Radiology Association, you will find the suitable specialists for every vascular problem (vascular surgery, radiology, angiology, neurology, diabetology, cardiology) in the Humboldt Hospital. The vascular treatment here is compliant with the current guidelines.

Vascular surgery is a specialised medical field, which has developed from surgery and which has been revolutionised since the 1990s. Together with the classic vascular surgery treatment techniques, conservative treatments (e.g. medication) and catheter treatments (PTA, stent) are increasingly employed.

Thus, today, for example, protrusions of the abdominal aorta (abdominal aortic aneurysm) are predominantly treated using stents. At the Berlin Nord Vascular Centre, currently over 80 – 90% of all abdominal aortic aneurysms are treated using this technique.
