PD Dr. Erhan Basad is an experienced joint surgeon and internationally known in the field of clinical cartilage research. His distinct surgical expertise comes from many years of activity, lastly as the Assistant Medical Director at the Giessen University Hospital. The focus of his university research with post-doctoral qualification was in the field of cartilage cell transplantation.
Dr. Basad transferred as an Attending Physician to the ATOS-Clinic in Heidelberg in 2012. As the Senior Physician of the Centre for Hip and Knee- Endoprosthetic / Arthroscopic and Regenerative Joint Surgery, he is mainly occupied with the surgical treatment of private and state insured patients. Dr. Basad’s surgical focus is on joint-preserving and arthroscopic techniques of knee-, shoulder- and ankle-joints. Further specializations are osteotomies for the mechanical axis correction of the knee and endoprosthetic replacements of the knee and hip. As the region’s exclusive provider, he is specialized on personalized (individually produced) implants for knee joint replacements. Dr. Basad personally performs over 700 out-patient and in-patient surgical procedures per year. Independent physician evaluation portals such as Jameda.de and his repeated honoring as a knee specialist in the FOCUS-List (Top Physicians of Germany) testify to his recognition by patients and medical colleagues. Dr. Basad continues his university teaching at Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and at Justus Liebig University in Giessen.
Dr. Basad is the author of a large number of scientific publications and an active member of national and international professional associations and scientific committees. As President of the German Association for Osteoarthritis Management, he is close to the newest developments in the treatment of osteoarthritis. His practice at the ATOS-Clinic is a part of the DGFAM-certified Heidelberg Osteoarthritis Centre. Hence, the ATOS-Clinic Heidelberg includes the first certified regional institution of its kind.
