Prof. Heino Kienapfel is an internationally known expert in Orthopedic Surgery and Trauma Surgery with an additional qualification in Special Orthopedic surgery.
From June 2004 to March 2017 he was Chairman and Director of the Department of Special Orthopedic Surgery and Trauma Surgery at the Vivantes Auguste Viktoria Hospital in Berlin.
In 2013, together with his co-workers, he founded the first certified maximum care Joint Replacement Center in Berlin and Brandenburg and chaired this center until March 2017.
Until April 2017, he also headed the Joint Replacement Registry Working Group of the German Society of Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery (DGOOC). Since 2017, Professor Kienapfel has provided a specialist clinic for hip and knee joint conditions and foot and spinal conditions at the Berlin Joint Center in his practice office in the Schoeneberg Clinic at Fuggerstr. 23, 10777 Berlin.
The consultation service there is available to private patients, direct payers and publicly insured patients. Organized within the Berlin Joint Center, Professor Kienapfel also provides a clinic for direct payers and private patients in the Tauentzien Orthopedics Practice, Tauentzienstrasse 5, 10789 Berlin, and at the OVZ Orthopedic Healthcare Center in Zehlendorf, Clayallee 225, 14195 Berlin. Over the last 25 years, Prof. Kienapfel has performed more than 6000 hip and knee joint replacement operations ( hereof about 25 % revision & exchange replacement procedures). Nevertheless, it is particularly important to him to perform surgery only after the exhaustion of non-surgical therapeutic measures. The consultation service has no time limit in order to enable a detailed discussion and a thorough examination. This is aided by advanced equipment, such as digital x-ray equipment, which produces high-definition x-ray images with a very low radiation exposure over a very brief period, and state-of-the-art CT (computed tomography) and advanced MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). Should a surgical procedure be required, this is conducted personally by Prof. Kienapfel in the Berlin Joint Center at the Schoeneberg Hospital or at the St. Marien Hospital in Lankwitz, Berlin, in close cooperation with the certified joint replacement center there. All implant components he uses are first tested and certified by the German Technical Inspection Agency in respect to their mechanical and biological properties. Implants made from high-tech materials are utilized in order to guarantee an optimal durability of the joint replacement.
Prof. Kienapfel cares personally for each patient, from the initial contact to the follow-up care. The Schoeneberg Hospital and the St. Marien Hospital also have, inter alia, a Comfort Ward. Various hospitals are available for the follow-up (including Humboldtmuehle Tegel, Median Hospital, Kladow and Hoppegarten, Ahrenshoop Hospital).
