Asst. Lect. Dr. Matthias C. Roethke, Executive Medical Director, is one of the leading prostate MRI specialists in Germany and works at Conradia Radiology and Nuclear Medicine | Conradia Hamburg MVZ GmbH. With a nationwide networked team of radiology experts in a total of 20 locations, Conradia provides, along with general radiology and nuclear medicine, the highest standard in medicine, equipment technology and IT and operates specialist centers for prostate, cardiac and tumor imaging and for internistic-radiological prevention / check-up.
Dr. Roethke, specialist in diagnostic radiology, was previously the Principal Consultant in the Department of Radiology at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg and is a specialist in imaging prostate diagnostics and in the diagnosis of pulmonary tumors, malignant melanoma, hepatic and renal cancer, as well as sarcomata and hematological disorders such as multiple myeloma (plasmacytoma). Basically: Oncological imaging is tricky. The interpretation of the images does not always agree with the pathological findings. What appears suspicious need not always be a tumor – and vice versa. Along with his high level of expertise, therefore, Dr. Roethke also requires a large amount of high-tech in order to assess findings.
At Conradia Hamburg, state-of-the art technical facilities are available to Dr. Roethke and his team, and so the team of experts is able to work at the cutting edge of science. In February 2019, the latest acquisition was installed in the Conradia-associated Hamburg Medical Prevention Center (MPCH): multiparameter prostate MRI is now performed using a state-of-the-art 3 Tesla MRI apparatus. With an over 90% strike rate, it can display or likewise exclude the most aggressive tumor lesion. The diagnostic precision, of course, also depends on the judgment of the radiologist, who therefore takes on an enormous responsibility. The great advantage for the patient: Prostate biopsies can be avoided in approximately 50% of cases. The examination takes less than 30 minutes.
Of course, classic MRI, CT, digital x-ray techniques and sonography technology are available at Conradia and periradicular therapy (PRT) is provided as image-guided back pain therapy. Each patient can be given a comprehensive medical checkup at the Preventive Unit in Eppendorf in only five hours.
