About us

Prof. Thomas Grundmann is the Senior Consultant of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Neck Surgery at the Asklepios Hospital, Altona in Hamburg. Together with otorhinolaryngology, he specialises in plastic-reconstructive head and neck surgery, oncology and microsurgery to the base of the skull. In addition, he has specialist qualifications in sleep medicine, manual medicine and in diving and hyperbaric medicine.

Thanks to the large number of rhinoplasties he has performed, Prof. Grundmann is able to draw on an invaluable wealth of experience in this field and thus he has gained an outstanding reputation among plastic head and neck surgeons. He is assisted by the Lead Consultant, Asst Lect. Dr Loerincz, and a highly qualified team consisting of specialists, thanks to whom the Department is able to respond to all medical challenges optimally and competently at any time.

One particular focus of the ENT department is the treatment of patients with recently occurring tumours in the head and neck region. The close collaboration in the interdepartmental interdisciplinary tumour centre enables a precise diagnosis to be made. This is indispensable for developing a treatment optimally tailored to each case. Here, the most up-to-date scientific developments are invariably integrated. Thus, in 2014, the ENT Department was acknowledged as a Specialist Centre for Head and Neck Oncology by the German Haematology and Oncology Association (DGHO).

At the same time, the most advanced technology is utilised in the operating theatre: minimally invasive procedures are supported by HD video and laser technology, and so conventional surgical incisions are frequently able to be avoided. This means that wounds heal more quickly and scars are barely visible.

The specialists under Prof. Thomas Grundmann use the most advanced, in some cases, computer-guided, techniques in plastic surgery in order to achieve the best results from an aesthetic point of view, while maintaining or restoring the function of the affected organs. The spectrum of procedures ranges from purely cosmetic corrections to medically indicated routine procedures and to complete reconstruction of the nose or outer ear after an accident, for example, or following a previous corrective procedure.
