About us

The specialist in abdominal surgery, Prof. Thomas W. Kraus, has two decades of experience as a specialist. As the Senior Consultant of the Department of General, Abdominal and Minimally Invasive Surgery at the Frankfurt Nordwest Hospital since 2006, he is responsible both for the proper treatment of countless numbers of patients and for the medical personnel. Prof. Kraus has considerable experience his field and has also earned an outstanding international reputation as a medical practitioner and scientist.

Hence, a large number of his research projects have been supported by major and international grants and he has received a number of awards for his work in medical research. Prof. Kraus is a member of various national and international specialist associations, including the German Surgery Association, the German Transplantation Association and the German Hernia Association. He is also qualified as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

Prof. Kraus passes on his outstanding specialist knowledge to prospective medical practitioners within the framework of surgery courses. In addition, he has given over 500 lectures at major specialist conferences and publishes contributions which are frequently cited in professional circles.

Prof. Kraus’s clinical emphases are gastrointestinal oncological surgery, colorectal surgery, hepatic and biliary tract surgery, vascular surgery, pancreatic surgery and hernia surgery. Thus, for example, he and his team of specialists at the Department of General, Abdominal and Minimally Invasive Surgery frequently treat benign and malignant hepatic tumours, tumours and inflammatory intestinal conditions, gastric tumours and other conditions of the stomach and the oesophagus, as well as typical medical conditions of the pancreas, gall bladder and thyroid gland.

In the process, Prof. Kraus and his specialist team perform outstanding achievements, for which the hospital has received a variety of awards and certifications. So, the Interdisciplinary Oncology Centre, the Bowel Cancer, Pancreatic Cancer and Prostatic Carcinoma Centre of the Nordwest Hospital have been registered as certified oncology centres by the German Cancer Association. The Hernia Centre is certified by the German Hernia Association and, in 2016, the hospital performed impressively in the nationwide comparison by a large health insurance company, with above average medical services in the area of cholecystectomy.
