About us

Dr Ulrich Lanz - Head of the Sports Orthopaedics Centre in Vienna Hietzing - is a specialist in the conservative and surgical treatment of the shoulder as well as in sports orthopaedics. He operates his private practice at two locations in Vienna:
at the Sports Orthopaedics Centre at Hietzinger Hauptstrasse 22, 1130 Vienna and
at the Doebling Private Clinic at Heiligenstaedterstrasse 46-48, 1190 Vienna.

Dr Lanz’s focus is on sports injuries. In his capacity as a sports orthopaedist, who was successful himself as a competitive sportsman in his youth, in the Austrian National Ice Hockey League and in the national team, Dr Lanz has cared for the Austrian national athletics team since 2007; in 2014, he also added the medical care of the Austrian Davis Cup team. Dr. Lanz, a specialist in orthopaedics and orthopaedic surgery, performs around 300 shoulder operations every year. He uses the advanced surgery facilities of various hospitals in Vienna for this purpose. Here, Dr Lanz works in close collaboration with radiologists and (physio)therapists, so that the comprehensive and professional care of his patients is always guaranteed, both before and after the procedure.

Dr Lanz benefited from excellent medical training at renowned universities and subsequently worked together with internationally recognised, highly experienced and innovative shoulder surgeons. Thus, Dr Lanz is in a position to provide open and minimally invasive techniques, which have not been widely used in Austria so far. Following his employment as a consultant and Specialist Shoulder Team Leader at the Orthopaedic Hospital in Vienna / Speising, Dr Lanz started his own business and opened his first private surgery at the Alser Strasse Medical Centre, then the second at the Private Clinic Döbling and finally his own sports orthopaedics centre in the heart of Hietzing. As a result, he can act independently and, as the physician of choice for all health insurance funds, he can give his patients the time they need to regain their usual mobility as quickly as possible.

The dialogue and a trusting relationship between the physician and the patient are essential components of the recovery process; for this reason, Dr Lanz places great emphasis on this close contact. Presentations by Dr Lanz at national and international events and his workshops enjoy great popularity among orthopaedic specialists and shoulder surgeons and accentuate his outstanding reputation as one of the leading shoulder specialists in Austria. The shoulder specialist and distinguished sports orthopaedics specialist, Dr Lanz, also regularly publishes contributions in the relevant specialist scientific literature and, as a medical advisor, supports medical technology companies in the development of innovative orthopaedic therapies. Thus, he is involved in the development of LAOLI Vital tendon sheaths, which can improve the tendon function following surgical procedures and ligament injuries.
