About us

Prof. Werner Weber is the Clinical Director of the Department of Radiology, Neuroradiology and Nuclear Medicine of the University Hospital of the Ruhr University / Miners’ Association Hospital in Bochum. He heads the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, Neuroradiology and Nuclear Medicine. The experienced neuroradiologist, both nationally and internationally well-connected in specialist radiology associations, has held this directorship since 2014. Following positions as Chief Resident at the Alfried Krupp Hospital, Essen (from 2001) and Chief Physician at the Miners’ Association Hospital, Recklinghausen (from 2007), Prof. Weber now promotes interdisciplinary collaboration of the Department of Radiology with all the specialist medical departments at the hospital in Bochum. These include the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Cardiology and Oncology, Ophthalmology and ENT.

The Departments of Transplantation Medicine and Emergency Medicine also benefit from the services of the Department of Radiology under Prof. Weber. With a distinctly future- and patient-oriented perspective, the focus of the Department is placed on neuroradiology. This includes the precise diagnosis and the perfectly suited treatment of conditions of the central nervous system (CNS), the associated blood vessels and surrounding structures such as the spinal column and the cranium. Prof. Weber and his team of specialists at the Bochum department rely on specialized equipment and thereby invariably place their highly motivated focus on the patient as an individual in their medical treatment. The technically advanced facilities enable the minimal invasive treatment of spinal conditions, which also affect the spinal cord, as well as conditions of the brain and its blood vessels. Tumors of the spinal column, brain and spinal cord can also be precisely examined and treated. Interventional neuroradiology also provides targeted pain therapy for patients with back pain, in which, for example, precise injections are administered under x-ray control or CT. The distinctive characteristic of neuroradiology is in its high degree of specialization and, at the same time, its wide range of application. Hence, general and interventional radiology, neuroradiology and nuclear medicine form a vital and increasingly significant foundation for diagnosis and treatment at the Bochum University Hospital. Prof. Weber and his team look forward to supporting your patients and colleagues with their expertise and quality-tested technology.
