About us

Treatment of children and adolescents with hematological diseases, leukemia, cancers, immune system disorders and genetic defects of hematopoiesis is a main focus of our clinic.

The aim of our work is to achieve the best therapeutic results possible on the basis of the latest research findings. Treatment of our patients with leukemia and cancer conforms to the guidelines of the German Society for Pediatric Oncology and Hematology (GPOH) in line with the current state of therapeutic research.
In addition, we employ new forms of therapies which we have developed or which are being tested internationally.

Our Clinic has a certified stem cell transplantation unit at which one of the first bone marrow transplantations worldwide in children was performed in 1969. Since then this division has developed into a leading center for the treatment of leukemia, serious immune disorders and congenital bone marrow diseases. For instance the (haploidentical) transplantation of a non-identical parent in the absence of a family or alien donor as well as a new less aggressive treatment procedure (radioimmunotherapy) were developed at
our clinic.

With our focus, we are integrated into the Comprehensive Cancer Center Ulm (CCCU). All patient cases are discussed in tumor conferences (tumor boards).
The CCCU is among the eleven oncological centers in Germany that have been rated as outstanding by the German Cancer Aid. During treatment we want to keep our patients close to their families. Therefore, children and adolescents are treated on an outpatient and daycare basis in our large day clinic as far as possible.
The parent houses with apartments and day care for siblings are located directly adjacent to the clinic to support this objective. Our work is characterized by an intensive cooperation of clinical practice and research; our research work has been awarded numerous national and international prizes.
