Metabolic Disorders

Everyone has a metabolism; it’s often described as good, bad, fast, or slow, and people frequently talk about “boosting” it. But what exactly is meant by “metabolism”? The technical term for metabolism is “metabolism.” It encompasses all the biochemical processes through which the body obtains new building blocks and energy by converting nutrients and oxygen.

Metabolism is influenced by the endocrine system—that is, the hormones released by the thyroid, pancreas, or adrenal glands. Disorders of these systems can affect mood, growth, body weight, and body temperature. Severe obesity, constantly feeling cold, or hair loss can be symptoms of a metabolic disorder.

Diseases affecting metabolism are grouped in Chapter IV of the internationally recognized ICD-10 diagnostic classification system, under “Endocrine, Nutritional, and Metabolic Diseases,” with codes ranging from E00 to E90.
