Prof. Dr. med. Timo Heidt

Prof. Dr. med. Timo Heidt is the Medical Director of the Max Grundig Clinic and Chief of Cardiology. As a specialist in internal medicine and cardiology, he combines many years of clinical experience with scientific excellence and state-of-the-art cardiac medicine. His special qualifications include advanced training in cardiac MRI and CT, sports cardiology, and certification as a cardiovascular preventive medicine specialist (DGPR®) and as a Hypertension Specialist (DHL®). His medical focus is on the early detection, comprehensive diagnosis, and individualized treatment of cardiovascular diseases, as well as the long-term prevention of cardiovascular risks.

Prof. Heidt completed his residency training at the University Medical Center Freiburg and the University Heart Center Freiburg-Bad Krozingen. There, he most recently served as a senior physician specializing in interventional therapies for coronary and structural heart diseases, as well as head of the hypertension outpatient clinic. He gained international research experience during a two-year fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard University in Boston. His scientific work focused on the mechanisms following a heart attack as well as the interactions between psychological factors and cardiovascular diseases. After completing his habilitation, he was appointed as an extraordinary professor at the Medical Faculty of the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg in 2022.

As a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC), Prof. Heidt’s areas of expertise include the diagnosis and treatment of coronary heart disease, cardiomyopathies, and heart failure, as well as valvular heart disease and hypertension. In addition,he possesses special expertise in cardiovascular imaging using cardiac MRI and cardiac CT, sports cardiology, cardio-oncology, and preventive and screening medicine. By utilizing innovative diagnostic methods and evidence-based treatment concepts, he develops individually tailored treatment strategies for his patients that meet the highest medical standards.

At the Max Grundig Clinic, Prof. Dr. Heidt takes a holistic approach that combines modern, high-performance medicine with interdisciplinary collaboration. The close integration of cardiology with other internal medicine specialties and psychosomatics enables a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s overall health (psychocardiology). This results in precise diagnoses and tailored treatment plans that not only address symptoms but also focus on the underlying causes of cardiovascular diseases in the long term.
