Prof. Dr. med. Dr. Matthias Heuer, FACS

Prof. Heuer is the Chief Physician of the Department of General and Visceral Surgery at the Knappschaft Kliniken Gelsenkirchen-Buer. Under his leadership, all surgical and clinical processes within visceral and general surgery are managed. The department covers a wide range of procedures—from routine operations to highly complex surgical treatments.

Surgical Focus Areas & Specializations
Medically, Prof. Heuer has extensive expertise in visceral surgery, with specialties in oncologic surgery, reflux surgery, and hernia surgery. Under his direction, surgeries of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, gallbladder, and biliary system are performed. The focus is on the treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the abdominal organs. Both conventional and minimally invasive techniques are used—depending on the indication and the individual needs of each patient.
